On to this week’s edition.
First up.
This photo showed up on my TL recently. I have seen this one before but this time around I couldn’t help but draw some parallels. Just like dear ol’ Jack in this picture we all are floating in the our very own seas of uncertainties, barely being able to stay afloat. Putting on a brave face. Only thing to make it worse, unlike Jack, some of us may not know how to swim. Troubled waters for sure.
Videos📼
This might not be the most definitive video about the history of animation but I will take whatever comes my way until Netflix releases the Season 2 of Love, Death, and Robots. Check it out.
Music🎶
It was sometime during last year’s pandemic that I first heard of Yo-Yo Ma.
Yo-Yo happens to be a classical cellist. During the early (or naive) days of the pandemic, Yo-Yo would play a song for the millions stuck indoors, compiled together on twitter under the hashtag #SongsOfComfort.
Frankly speaking, at the end of many a lonely day, Yo-Yo’s music has given hope or consoled many around the world, including myself. Here is what he played for India last week.
Close your eyes and listen.
You can listen to all the songs that Yo-Yo played during the pandemic in form of a playlist. Click here. Of course, Ma himself uploaded the videos. Such a ‘paaapa’ guy.
Furthermore, here is Yo-Yo’s latest interview on a Showtime show. Turns out there is a funny side to the man. I love how the host’s demeanor changes as Ma goes into a trance. Click here please!
Movies🎬
Okay, the first recommendation is not a movie, but we do have a theme going around here. The theme is singer-songwriters talking about their music. Quite simple, one track idea, but in the hands of a master craftsperson, it could become quite a journey-into-the-soul type thing.
Here is a Ted Talk given by Sting on losing and finding his mojo. Of how he dealt with a creative block. A truly personal tale. Of course, filled with music.
Up next, is the main attraction of this week’s newsletter.
Springsteen on Broadway
“How many people would have the balls to perform their own autobiography, with songs, and on Broadway? And how many could do it with such humor and heart and humility? Not too many. “ This is a Youtube comment on the ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ movies’ trailer and it nails it.
If you are a fan of ‘The Boss’, dive-in without a second thought. If not, then well you have the best seat in the house to see and hear one of the best American singer-songwriters laying their entire life in front of everyone. With heart. With humility.
🎵We gotta get out while we're young, Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run🎵
